Our partner and friend, Justin J. Shigemi, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018.
Justin joined Finn Dixon & Herling LLP in 2008 as an associate in the firm’s Investment Management practice group. He worked tirelessly to develop his skills and expertise as an investment management attorney – focusing on the formation and operations of hedge funds and investment advisers and related regulatory and compliance matters. Recently, Justin focused on emerging technologies and kicked off the firm’s FinTech practice.
Known to work all hours of the day and night, Justin provided an exceptional level of service to the firm’s clients around the globe. He was well liked and respected by the firm’s personnel, clients and our friends in the investment management industry. Justin’s generous nature was seen in his random acts of charity and generosity, both inside and outside of the office.
Justin championed a diverse and inclusive workplace that respects and values people from all backgrounds and communities. To that end, he spearheaded the establishment of and chaired the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. He served as the co-chair of the Fairfield Regional Committee of the Connecticut Asian Pacific Bar Association (CAPABA) and was an active member of the National Asian Pacific Bar Association (NAPABA). Largely through Justin’s efforts, the firm was awarded CAPABA’s 2017 Diversity Award, which recognizes a person, organization or firm that has demonstrated its support for CAPABA’s mission by its commitment to diversity in the legal profession as well as financial support.
Justin is survived by his wife Casey, his mother and a brother. Our thoughts are with their families. We wish them peace, comfort and healing in this difficult time.
We will miss you, Justin. It was a privilege to have you as a colleague.
